Laser Hair Removal Can Be Life-Changing – If You Don’t Get In The Way
For men and women living in Dallas, laser hair removal can be a safe, effective, and permanent solution to unwanted hair. The short duration of the treatments we offer at Mara’s Med Spa will pale in comparison to the hours upon hours you’ll save throughout the rest of your life no longer needing to shave, epilate, or use hair removal creams as much as you used to. After a few treatments, shaving and epilating become easier since there are fewer strands to target. Permanent hair removal via laser works by targeting a pigment called melanin found in the bulge region deep within the hair follicle. At both locations of Mara’s Med Spa in Dallas, we use a diode laser to heat the melanin, which, in turn, damages the hair follicle. This treatment will either completely destroy the hair follicle and eliminate future growth or will damage it enough to dramatically slow the growth of the hair in the follicle. However, as life-changing as long-term hair removal can be, the treatment can have disappointing results if you fail to do – or stop doing – things that can interfere with its effectiveness. These mistakes, while all too common, are entirely avoidable. To ensure that you get the maximum benefits from your hair removal treatment, avoid these blunders:
Failing To Shave Before Treatment
As noted, laser hair removal involves heating hair to damage the cells in hair follicles. If the hair is too long, however, the laser can burn your skin. Less energy will also reach the follicle base, so the results will be less than optimal. You should shave the treatment area either the day before or the day of treatment. While you should shave before a session, you should refrain from other hair removal treatments beginning at least six weeks before your first appointment. We also recommended that you stop tanning a few weeks before each treatment.
Not Using The Right Laser
There is more than one type of laser that professionals use for hair removal, and there are significant differences between those devices At Mara’s Med Spa, the diode laser we use in our hair removal treatments is significantly faster and more effective than intense pulse light (IPL), the other primary type of hair removal laser. Typically, IPL hair removal requires more sessions than diode treatments and is more uncomfortable. Additionally, IPL hair removal isn’t suited for people with darker skin tones, including deep tans. Diode lasers, on the other hand, are perfectly safe and effective for all skin tones.
Failing To Follow Through
Long-term hair removal treatments are not a one-and-done proposition. To obtain optimal results, you should be willing to commit to the six to ten treatment sessions normally required. Areas that have more coarse and darker hair, such as the lower legs, bikini area, and underarms, will see the quickest, best results first. But if you don’t show up for your subsequent appointments, usually spaced four to six weeks apart, you will sabotage your treatment and be disappointed when you see hair growing back.
Expecting Zero Hair Growth Ever Again
While hair removal using the diode laser dramatically and permanently reduces hair growth in the treatment area, it may not halt hair growth entirely. Most areas treated with the diode laser will have about an 85 to 90 percent reduction in hair, although different treatment areas will show different results. While any hair that does grow back in the treatment area is usually sparse, less coarse, and often unnoticeable, you may need a touchup appointment to maintain results.
Relying On An Inexperienced Laser Hair Removal Provider
As good as a diode laser is for permanent hair removal, it is still only as good as the person operating it. Do your research before choosing a Dallas medical spa for your laser hair removal treatment. Ask questions about how long the technician has been providing such treatments and how frequently they do so. Also ask to see before and after pictures of treated areas and read reviews from satisfied clients.
